Consultations and treatment
What conditions can be assessed online?
Many common health concerns can initially be assessed through a remote medical consultation, including fever, cold and flu symptoms, digestive problems, allergies, minor skin conditions, headaches, mild infections and other non-emergency concerns. The doctor will determine whether remote care is appropriate for your particular situation.
If the doctor determines that a physical examination is necessary, we can help arrange an in-person consultation or doctor visit. Where appropriate, you may also be directed to a suitable clinic or healthcare facility.

Prescriptions and documents
Can the doctor issue an electronic prescription?
Where clinically appropriate and permitted, a doctor may issue a prescription following your consultation. The doctor will determine whether medication can safely be prescribed based on your symptoms, medical history and assessment.
Where medically justified following a consultation, the doctor may provide appropriate medical documentation, such as a medical certificate. This can be particularly useful if illness affects your travel plans or scheduled activities.
No. Certain medicines may require a physical examination, additional medical information or an in-person consultation before they can be prescribed. Some medications may also be subject to specific prescribing regulations. Patient safety always comes first.
Payment and insurance
Can I use the service without insurance?

Where required and with your consent, SOS Tourist Doctor can assist with the medical information and documentation needed for communication with your travel insurer. Requirements vary between insurance companies, so we recommend checking the terms of your individual policy.
Privacy and emergencies
When and why does the app use my GPS location?
Your location may be used when necessary to identify where you are and facilitate location-based medical assistance, such as arranging a doctor visit or coordinating appropriate care. Location information is used only for relevant service purposes and in accordance with applicable privacy requirements.
Your privacy and medical confidentiality are taken seriously. Personal and medical information is handled securely and only used as necessary to provide and coordinate your care, in accordance with applicable confidentiality and data-protection requirements.
SOS Tourist Doctor is not a substitute for emergency services. If you or someone with you is experiencing a potentially life-threatening emergency—such as severe breathing difficulty, loss of consciousness, major trauma, severe bleeding, suspected heart attack or stroke—seek emergency medical assistance immediately.
Where appropriate, SOS Tourist Doctor can assist in coordinating an ambulance or directing you towards suitable emergency medical care. However, in an immediately life-threatening situation, you should contact the local emergency services without delaying care while waiting for an online consultation.
