Welcome to SOS Tourist Doctor.
These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the SOS Tourist Doctor website, mobile application and associated medical and healthcare coordination services (collectively, the “Services”).
By accessing our website, downloading or using the SOS Tourist Doctor application, creating an account, requesting a consultation, booking a medical visit or otherwise using our Services, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms.
If you do not agree with these Terms, you should not use the Services.
SOS Tourist Doctor is a healthcare access and medical assistance service designed primarily to facilitate access to medical care for visitors and travellers in Mauritius.
Through our platform, users may, depending on availability and clinical appropriateness, access services including:
The precise services available may vary according to the patient’s condition, location, practitioner availability, technical availability and applicable laws and professional requirements.
Medical consultations are provided by appropriately qualified healthcare professionals.
All clinical decisions remain at the independent professional judgement of the treating medical practitioner. The availability of a service through SOS Tourist Doctor does not mean that a particular treatment, medication, prescription, investigation, referral or medical certificate will necessarily be provided.
A doctor may determine that a remote consultation is insufficient and that you require a physical examination, diagnostic testing, specialist consultation or hospital assessment.
Patients are expected to follow the medical advice and instructions provided to them and to disclose information relevant to their care accurately and completely.
Telemedicine allows a medical practitioner to assess and advise a patient remotely through telephone, video, digital communication or other electronic means.
By requesting a telemedicine consultation, you acknowledge that remote consultations have inherent limitations. A doctor may not be able to perform certain physical examinations, take clinical measurements or observe symptoms to the same extent as during an in-person consultation.
Where the doctor considers that a remote assessment is not clinically sufficient, you may be advised to arrange an in-person consultation, laboratory investigation, imaging, specialist assessment or hospital attendance.
SOS Tourist Doctor does not guarantee that every medical condition can be diagnosed or treated remotely.
SOS Tourist Doctor is not a substitute for emergency medical services.
You should not rely on the website, application, messaging service or teleconsultation platform when immediate emergency intervention is required.
If you experience symptoms including, but not limited to:
you should seek emergency medical assistance without delay.
Where appropriate and feasible, SOS Tourist Doctor may assist in coordinating an ambulance or directing a patient towards emergency medical services. Such assistance does not replace the responsibility to contact emergency services directly where urgent intervention is required.
Where available and clinically appropriate, SOS Tourist Doctor may arrange for a medical practitioner to attend a patient’s hotel, villa, residence or other location.
Availability of home, hotel or villa visits may depend on:
Estimated arrival times are provided for guidance only and cannot be guaranteed.
If the attending practitioner determines that further treatment or investigation is necessary, the patient may be advised or referred to a clinic, laboratory, imaging centre, specialist or hospital.
To enable safe and appropriate medical care, you agree to provide information that is accurate, complete and truthful.
This includes, where relevant:
You should immediately inform the practitioner if information previously provided was incorrect or incomplete.
SOS Tourist Doctor and its healthcare professionals cannot be held responsible for consequences arising from material information that a patient deliberately withholds, misrepresents or provides inaccurately, subject always to applicable law.
A prescription may only be issued when the treating medical practitioner considers it clinically appropriate and where prescribing is permitted under applicable law and professional requirements.
A consultation does not automatically entitle a patient to a prescription.
Certain medicines may not be prescribed remotely or may require an in-person medical assessment, further investigation or additional documentation.
Controlled, restricted or otherwise regulated medicines are subject to applicable Mauritian laws and prescribing requirements.
The treating practitioner retains full clinical discretion to refuse to prescribe a medicine where they consider it unsafe, inappropriate, unnecessary or outside the permissible scope of remote medical practice.
Patients must follow prescribed dosages and instructions and should inform the doctor of known allergies, interactions or other relevant medical conditions.
Where clinically justified, a medical practitioner may issue a medical certificate, consultation summary, medical report or other relevant documentation.
The issuance and contents of such documents remain at the professional discretion of the treating practitioner.
SOS Tourist Doctor cannot guarantee that a medical certificate or report will be accepted by an employer, airline, hotel, travel company, insurance provider, government authority or other third party.
Documents will not be issued or altered to contain information that the treating practitioner considers inaccurate, misleading or medically unjustified.
Where appropriate, SOS Tourist Doctor may assist patients in accessing third-party healthcare services, including laboratories, radiology or imaging centres, pharmacies, specialists, clinics and hospitals.
Unless expressly stated otherwise, these organisations operate independently from SOS Tourist Doctor.
Fees charged by third-party providers may be separate from SOS Tourist Doctor consultation or coordination fees.
SOS Tourist Doctor does not control and cannot guarantee the availability, waiting times, pricing, clinical decisions or services of independent third-party providers.
Applicable consultation, visit or service fees will normally be communicated before confirmation of the relevant service.
Payment may be required before a consultation, doctor visit or other service is provided.
Additional charges may apply where additional medical services are required, including but not limited to:
Unless expressly stated as included, these costs are separate from the SOS Tourist Doctor consultation fee.
Users are responsible for ensuring that payment information supplied through the platform is accurate and that they are authorised to use the selected payment method.
Appointments should be cancelled or rescheduled as early as possible.
A cancellation or refund may be subject to the applicable cancellation policy communicated at the time of booking.
Where a healthcare professional has already commenced providing the service, including reviewing the patient’s medical information or beginning a consultation, the consultation fee may be non-refundable to the extent permitted by law.
If SOS Tourist Doctor is unable to provide a confirmed service for reasons attributable to us, an appropriate refund, rescheduling or alternative arrangement may be offered depending on the circumstances.
No refund will ordinarily be due merely because a patient disagrees with a doctor’s clinical opinion, does not receive the medication requested, is referred for an in-person assessment or is advised that further investigation is necessary.
You may use SOS Tourist Doctor whether or not you hold travel or medical insurance.
Where requested, appropriate invoices, receipts and medical documentation may be provided to assist with an insurance claim.
However, SOS Tourist Doctor does not guarantee that any insurer will reimburse the cost of a consultation, medication, investigation, doctor visit or other medical service.
Coverage, exclusions, deductibles, prior-authorisation requirements and reimbursement remain subject to the patient’s individual insurance policy.
With the patient’s consent and where appropriate, SOS Tourist Doctor may communicate relevant medical or administrative information to an insurer or assistance company.
The patient remains responsible for charges not covered or reimbursed by their insurer unless an alternative arrangement has been expressly confirmed.

Where Services are requested for a minor, the parent, legal guardian or other person legally authorised to consent to the child’s medical care must provide the necessary consent and information.
Additional verification may be requested.
Where the urgency or nature of a child’s condition makes remote consultation inappropriate, an in-person or emergency assessment may be recommended.

However, medicine involves clinical judgement and no particular diagnosis, treatment outcome, recovery time or result can be guaranteed.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SOS Tourist Doctor shall not be responsible for losses resulting solely from circumstances outside its reasonable control, including third-party service failures, inaccurate or incomplete information supplied by a user, failure to follow medical advice, telecommunications failures or delays caused by circumstances beyond reasonable control.
